KVED Ukraine: Classification of Types of Economic Activity
Ukraine's classification of types of economic activity (KVED) is the official system for classifying business establishments in Ukraine. Produced and maintained by State Statistics Service of Ukraine (Derzhstat), KVED was first published in 1996 and has undergone two major updates, most recently in 2010. KVED, which is identical to the European Union's NACE, is structured into four levels, from broad Sections at the highest level to more specific Classes at the lowest level. KVED is used widely in Ukraine's public and private sector.

KVED 2010 (Current)
KVED 2010 took effect on 1 January 2012. It is identical to the European Union's NACE Rev. 2 at all levels.
Changes Between KVED 2005 and KVED 2010
A notable structural change in KVED 2010 is the dropping of the Subsections and Subclasses that are present in KVED 2005. Therefore, while KVED 2005 has five classification levels, KVED 2010 has four. At every level, the changes between KVED 2005 and KVED 2010 are identical to the changes between NACE Rev. 1.1 and NACE Rev. 2. These include the combination of the KVED 2005 Section A (Agriculture, hunting and forestry) and Section B (Fishing) to form a new and more detailed Section A (Agriculture, forestry and fishing) in KVED 2010. Similarly, sanitation-related activities in KVED 2005 were integrated to form the new Section E (Water supply; sewerage, waste management and remediation activities) while the Section J (Information and communication) was created comprising activities related to the production and distribution of information and cultural products, information technology and data processing activities. There was a substantial increase in detail at all other levels of the system consistent with structural changes in the Ukranian economy and society.

Where is it used?
Ukraine's national statistics office (Derzhstat) is the primary user of KVED, in the presentation of national industrial data and indicators and other closely monitored macroeconomic data.
Other government agencies in Ukraine also use KVED codes for different administrative purposes such as in the determination of insurance premia for social insurance programs. KVED codes are also used in tax administration with tax rates varying according to KVED codes.
In the private sector, KVED codes are included in directories of Ukrainian companies such as that offered by UA-REGION. Such directories are widely used in market research and investment analysis.
KVED codes feature prominently in research. In light of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, research has used KVED codes to understand structural changes in sectors and activities directly linked to the war economy and supply chain analysis to support post-war recovery in Ukraine.
